Intra-actions (Barad)

Intra-actions, a term coined by American feminist theorist and physicist Karen Barad, redefines the traditional notion of interactions. Unlike interactions that presuppose separate entities coming together, intra-actions suggest that entities emerge through their relations, emphasizing that distinctions between objects and their agencies are not pre-established but rather are co-constituted. This concept challenges conventional metaphysics of individualism, proposing a more entangled approach to understanding phenomena, where the boundaries and properties of things materialize within the phenomenon itself, reshaping how cause and effect, agency, and existence are viewed.
